The Many Faces of Bingo
The tradition of bingo is as popular as ever. While increasing numbers of people are playing online bingo, the traditional game still exists in bingo halls across the land. Possibly the greatest factor in this enduring popularity is its continued variety and adaptability. This article describes some of the different kinds of games that are out there to give the reader a flavour of the game.
Racing Bingo
This is a game that is played at a quick pace to crank up the excitement. Up to fifteen players are randomly issued a number that correlates with the top row of numbers on the bingo flashboard. The winner is the player first past the post – he or she who marks off all numbers in a column.
Quick-Shot Bingo
Rather than buying cards which are then marked off against numbers drawn by the caller, the numbers in Quick-Shot Bingo are pre-drawn. Players buy sealed bingo cards which are then correlated to the pre-drawn numbers. As in a regular game of bingo there are normally extra prizes to be won, usually based upon matching a pattern specified by the bingo house.
Bonanza Bingo
Like Quick-Shot Bingo, Bonanza Bingo relies on sealed card and pre-drawn numbers. Once all the numbers have been marked off from the cards, the caller asks if anyone has bingo. Should there be no takers at this stage, the caller draws another ball. The caller once more asks the players to declare bingo, but should there be no winners a second time the players hold on to their cards until the next session. From here on in, a single ball is drawn after each session, allowing for both the tension and jackpot to build until one lucky player achieves a cover-all.
St. Patrick's Day Bingo
It does not take great imagination to know when this game is played! Everybody knows the Irish are a party-loving people, and when it comes to bingo there is no exception. In this version, each player is given a card decorated with symbols or words related to St. Patrick’s Day. As the caller calls the symbol or word, the players mark them off their cards. Once all the shamrocks and leprechauns are covered, that bingo player has won the game.
