Some cool facts about the NFL
Posted By Diego | NFL News | December 11, 2011, 05:51 AM |
In a regular season of NFL matches are played over a 17-week schedule. Most of the matches are played on Sundays in the afternoon. Weekly matches are also held on Sunday and Monday nights and sometimes on Thursday or Saturday nights. There is also one bye-week to decide the playoffs. At present the season starts on a Thursday after the Labor Day and ends in early January.
The game of American Football as played in NFL matches is quite simple to understand. Each match is played between two teams comprising of 11 players each. One team called the offense team has the football and the players advance across the field either running with the ball or passing or throwing it. Points are scored when the ball passes the goal line and gets into the end zone. The other team acts as the defense team trying to prevent the offense team from scoring points. The aim is to “snatch” the ball from the opposition. Once the offense team scores or loses possession of the ball, the teams then switch roles and the offensive team goes defensive while the team that was till then playing defensive goes offensive trying to score points.
